Homemade 7UP Biscuits are delicious and extremely fluffy! One bite of these and we’re pretty sure you’ll never try another biscuit recipe again. 7UP Biscuits from scratch are super easy and quick. The bubbly 7UP gives them just a bit of sweetness and tons of moisture. These biscuits can be served with dinner or breakfast, and pair well with soups, stews, classic dinners, and even eggs.

Don’t feel like rolling and cutting biscuits? No problem! You don’t have to – this recipe has cut or uncut biscuit instructions!

ingredients for 7UP Biscuits

You will need:

  • 2 cups of flour plus a little extra
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick, 113 grams), cold and cut into tablespoons
  • 3/4 cup of 7UP
  • 2 teaspoons of white sugar

Substitutions And Additions

Sprite / Ginger Ale: If you don’t have 7UP on hand, you can substitute with Sprite or Ginger Ale instead.
Sour Cream: If you want to make Sour Cream 7UP Biscuits instead, use only 1/2 cup 7UP and add 1/2 sour cream.

Double This Recipe: You can double this recipe easily. You can cut extra biscuits, or just use a 9×13 inch pan and place the dough directly inside – no cutting required!

How to Make this 7UP Biscuits recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 450°F. Spray the bottom of a 9×9 baking dish with cooking spray.

STEP TWO: Add flour, baking powder, salt and sugar to a large mixing bowl. Whisk together.

PRO TIP: If your flour is lumpy, run it through a sifter or whisk it well before adding any liquids.

STEP THREE: Cut up your butter. Place the butter in with the flour mixture and toss to coat them in flour. Use a fork or a pastry cutter to chop the butter pieces until they are about the size of peas.

STEP FOUR: Place the flour mixture in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes to cool the butter back down. This is the secret to making your biscuits nice and flaky!

STEP FIVE: Add 7UP to the biscuit mix and stir together until it forms a dough ball.

PRO TIP: If you’re adding in sour cream, mix the sour cream and 7UP together and add them all at once.

STEP SIX: When the dough is mixed, pour it out onto a lightly floured cutting board or counter. Use a rolling pin to lightly roll the dough into a 9×9 square. It should be about 3/4 inch thick.

STEP SEVEN: Use a biscuit cutter, pizza cutter, or knife to cut the square into 9 biscuits. Make a tic-tac-toe pattern!

STEP EIGHT: Place in the prepared pan with the edges of each biscuit touching. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and set on a cooling rack to cool a bit before eating.

PRO TIP: If you don’t want to cut the biscuits, you can bake this as one solid loaf and just cut it apart after. Just use a slightly smaller pan – 8×8 will work great.

IN THE FRIDGE: After allowing the biscuits to cool, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

IN THE FREEZER: If you want to freeze them for later, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or foil to prevent loss of flavor or drying out. They will last up to 2 to 3 months.

FAQ

Can I use another type of soda?

If you don’t have 7Up on hand, you can substitute it with Sprite or ginger ale.

How do I know when the biscuits are done?

The biscuits are done when they have risen high and are golden brown. If you can tap on the top of them without it sinking back down, they are done.

Why did my biscuits come out flat?

Your biscuits may have come out flat if they were over mixed. They need only to be mixed quickly and lightly, just enough to combine the ingredients. Expired baking powder can also cause flat biscuits. While you may be able to get away with some ingredients that are slightly past their date, it really does make a difference for baking powder.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick) cold and cut into tablespoons
  • 3/4 cup 7 UP

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

  • Spray the bottom of a 9×9 glass baking dish with nonstick spray.

  • In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt to remove any lumps.

  • Cut cold butter into tablespoons. Place the butter into the bowl of flour. Toss to coat the pieces of butter with flour. Using a fork break up the butter pieces until crumbly and about the size of peas. Stir to toss the crumbled butter with flour.

  • Place the bowl of flour/butter into the freezer for a few minutes to get the butter cold again. This is the secret to flaky biscuits.

  • Remove the bowl from the freezer. Pour in the 7-Up and mix together to form dough into a ball.

  • On a lightly floured surface roll or pat out the dough into a 9×9 square. Using a sharp knife cut into nine squares. Use a tic-tac-toe pattern.

  • Place cut biscuits into the prepared pan with sides touching.

  • Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
